SETTING UP
AND
MAINTAINING
YOUR BOAT
Yole Club
and Class
There
are three
positions:
fore (front)
and aft
(back) for
double
rowing and
center
position for
single
rowing.
Setting
up for
single or
double:
Set the foot
stretcher in
the aluminum
track tubes
in relation
to the
rigger
mounts. The
rigger
mounts are
the 6 pair
black or
plastic
mountings on
the inside
of the
gunwale,
three pair
on the right
side and 3
pair on the
left side of
the boat.
The two pair
in the
center
position are
for single
rowing and
the pair
fore and aft
are for
double
rowing.
To start:
lift one
aluminum
track tube
out of the
bracket at
the stern
(back) and
insert the
foot
stretcher,
counting 4
holes on the
track
(always)
towards the
stern. As a
guide use
the second
(toward the
stern) of
the pair of
the
appropriate
rigger
mounts on
either side.
Center for
single, fore
and aft for
double. When
setting up
for double
it is easier
to insert
the foot
stretcher
for the bow.
Use the same
procedure
and hole
count.
(image 1)
Make sure
the center
hole on the
bottom of
the track
tube is
aligned over
the pin.
Then snap
the track
tube back
into its
bracket.
|
|
To adjust the
stretcher to
your individual
height, take
rowing position
in the boat,
with both feet
placed in foot
stretcher and
legs fully
extended, place
hands on grips
(thumbs over the
ends of grip),
pull both oars
toward your mid
section (left
hand over
right). As you
pull back, your
thumbs should
just graze your
mid section
without leaning
excessively
backward. If
your thumbs are
too far away or
if you have
little room
between thumbs
and mid section,
adjust the foot
stretcher and
repeat the
exercise.
Place the seat(s)
on the tracks
with Virus logo
pointing toward
the bow of the
boat.
(image 2)
Insert riggers
into black
rigger mount on
the inside of
the gunwale.
Match color
strips on
riggers and on
inside of
gunwales.

TURBO II Classic
(sliding seat)
All equipment:
seat and
stretcher are
packed with the
rigger. The 4
bolts and
washers to
attach the
rigger to the
hull are in
place where the
rigger is to be
set. |
|
Attach the
rigger to the
hull with the
bolts and
washers.
(image 5)
Use a 13mm
socket wrench.
Set the seat on
tracks with logo
pointing toward
the bow of the
boat. To start:
lift the
aluminum tracks
out of the
brackets and
insert the foot
stretcher
approximately 3
holes from the
end (right under
the rigger).
To adjust the
foot stretcher
to your height
follow the
exercise for the
YOLE. |
 |
TURBO II WING
and TURBO SKIFF
SL
(sliding
rigger)
The sliding
rigger is
complete with
carriage, wing
and foot
stretcher. The
seat is attached
to the track
(TURBO II Wing)
and a molded
part of the hull
(TURBO SKIFF
SL). |
|
The rigger
carriage slides
on the track.
(image 6)
The rigger wings
are open and
pointed toward
the bow of the
boat. Lift the
track out of the
brackets. The
tracks enter
between the
upper and lower
rollers in the
carriage case.
Reset the track
into positions.
Fasten the track
in the brackets
with the
bolts/wing nuts,
finger tight.

THE OARS
-
Virus
Sport
Oars
280cm/110"
for Yole
Class
and Yole
Club: no
assembly
needed.
-
Virus
Sport
Oars
3m/118"
for
Turbo II
and
Skiff
SL: no
assembly
needed.
-
Dreher
Carbon
Oars
287cm/113"
do
require
assembly,
collars
onto
sleeves.
|
|
The collars are
green for right
(starboard side
of the boat =
rowers left
hand) and red
for left
(portside side
of boat = rowers
right hand). The
bolts/nuts on
the collars need
to be loosened.
(image 8)Slide
the collars,
with the flat
side towards the
blade, over the
sleeves. The
correct inboard
position of the
collar on the
sleeve, for an
average load is
88cm/34 2/3".
The measurement
is to be taken
from the end of
the grip to the
flat of the
collar surface. |
 |
 |
Options for
adjustments:
Aluminum Sport
3m and Dreher
Carbon 287
To increase
load: shorten
inboard distance
(collar to grip)
for longer
distance and
more power.
To decrease
load: lengthen
inboard distance
(collar to grip)
for longer
distance and
less power.

OARLOCKS
Yole Class and
Yole Club
|
 |
"Snap in"
Oarlocks.
The oars snap
in/out at the
narrowest part
of the shaft,
where shaft
meets the blade.
(image 10)
The oars will
sit firm and
will not come
out while
rowing. To
insert oars into
oarlocks, point
the oarlocks
parallel to the
hull, pointing
to the stern of
the boat. |
 |
|
Turbo II
Classic, Wing
and Skiff SL:
The oarlocks are
gated. To set
the oars, open
the gate,
position
oarlocks
parallel to the
hull pointing
toward the stern
of the boat.
(image 11)
Place the oar in
the oarlock
between oarlock
and gunwale.
Close the gate
with the plastic
nut, finger
tight.
Adjusting the
oarlocks:
Oarlocks are set
for cross over
left hand over
right. Setting
can be adjusted
if the rower
prefers higher
sitting
oarlocks, yet
should keep the
same difference
of washer of pin
below and above
for each
oarlock. |

MAINTENANCE AND
STORAGE OF VIRUS
ROWING BOATS
FIBERGLASS BOATS
Yole Class
and Turbo II
Skiff
The material
fiberglass is
delicate and at
the same time
durable and
robust. The Yole
Class and Skiff
SL should be
stored on boat
slings (camp
stools work very
well). Place the
slings
approximately
1/3 from either
end of the boat.
Seitech
Dollies(models
for Yole and
Skiff SL) make
for excellent
boat storage.
For extended
storage lay the
boats deck down
on 2 x 4 covered
with carpet or
suitable
material.
CLEANING
Rowing in
saltwater: Rinse
the boat down
with fresh water
after each row,
concentrating on
all movable
parts. For
lubrication of
moveable parts
(stainless steel
rollers on seats
and riggers)
Silicon
lubricant serves
best. For shine,
use regular boat
cleaner and wax.
POLYETHYLENE
Yole Club and
Turbo II Classic
and Wing
The material is
among the
toughest and
most robust. The
boats are well
constructed and
do not need any
special
maintenance.
Store Yole Club
and Turbo II
Classic and wing
on boat slings
(camp stools
work very well).
Place the slings
approximately
1/3 from either
end of the boat.
Seitech Dollies
(models for Yole
and Skiff SL)
make for
excellent boat
storage.
Otherwise,
Polyethylene
lends itself to
most common
types of
storage.
CLEANING
Same as above
for Fiberglass
boats. For total
cleaning use
regular "soft
scrub", in
special cases
the power washer
works very well.
OARS
All oars should
be hung, leaned
upright close to
wall or lay
flat. |
